CHRISTMAS CLOUDS

A quick, fun, and creative way to generate your own Christmas themed Tag Cloud at Wordle.  I used the lyrics to We Wish You a Merry Christmas to create this one :)

Via my friend Elise over at A Romantic Hippie, who suggested this as an inexpensive but thoughtful gift. Such a great idea! I could definitely see one of these clouds being turned into some unique artwork. It's like having your own personal graphic designer :)

Saturday in the City

Last night Sam took me to see the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and choir in the city. And it was such a special treat. The performance                       was just what I needed to get into the Christmas spirit and we even got some nice city views after the show. I’m liking Australian December.

Christmas Cheer

I never thought that spending Christmas in a beautiful beach town, with sunshine and 80 degree days would be difficult, but I’ve gotta say that I’ve been really feeling homesick the past few weeks. I guess you just never realize how engrained Christmas traditions are until they aren’t there anymore. Not to say it hasn’t been a great December…it’s just been different. No snow. Less decorations. No cookie decorating parties :) But I think I’ve realized that the reason is these Aussies have better things to do! The weather is gorgeous, the beach is calling and no one can be bothered staying inside and baking all day. Who could blame them! Maybe us Midwesterners only stick to our indoor traditions because we have no other choice…there’s a blizzard outside!!

Haha, anyway. I’m growing very fond of this Australian Christmas and can’t wait to spend the holidays with Sam and his family, learning all about their traditions and what Christmas time means to them. It’s going to be a really special year. And even though I’ll miss my family terribly, they sent a whole bunch of Christmas cheer from Indiana, Texas and Arizona for Sam and I to put under the tree. Check out all these pressies!

Mom even sent some super cute ornaments for our tree :)

For those of you that know me well, you know that gift giving is one of my all time favorite things. I love being able to give that perfect gift! (Not saying I always succeed, but I’ve got a good track record :) And this year I really wanted to make my gifts LOOK as special as I think they are. So with a little inspiration from Design*Sponge, I got to work making some crafty Christmas presents. Here was the decorating station…

Christmas-ness!

Yesterday Sam and I went to pick out our first Christmas tree. I’ve never had a real tree before (my parent’s tree is beautiful, but fake) so I was pretty pumped to have our apartment filled with the classic Christmas-smell and covered in pine needles :)

We didn’t stop there with the Christmas-ness though, because we didn’t have any decorations or lights either. So after we had the tree in the car, we ran all over looking for the perfect ornaments and lights as the tree smelled up the car for us. Mmmmmmm. After a quite a few stops (I’m picky!) we headed back home to decorate the tree and listen to Sufjan Stevens’ Christmas albums. So perfect. The only thing missing was snow…

I’ve seen photographers do this kind of shot with landscapes and sunsets in the background and can’t wait to try…

I love it :)

I’ve also gotten a head start on my gifts, seeing as they’ll be travelling a long way. This little guy is on his way to the States already :)
