I never thought that spending Christmas in a beautiful beach town, with sunshine and 80 degree days would be difficult, but I’ve gotta say that I’ve been really feeling homesick the past few weeks. I guess you just never realize how engrained Christmas traditions are until they aren’t there anymore. Not to say it hasn’t been a great December…it’s just been different. No snow. Less decorations. No cookie decorating parties :) But I think I’ve realized that the reason is these Aussies have better things to do! The weather is gorgeous, the beach is calling and no one can be bothered staying inside and baking all day. Who could blame them! Maybe us Midwesterners only stick to our indoor traditions because we have no other choice…there’s a blizzard outside!!
Haha, anyway. I’m growing very fond of this Australian Christmas and can’t wait to spend the holidays with Sam and his family, learning all about their traditions and what Christmas time means to them. It’s going to be a really special year. And even though I’ll miss my family terribly, they sent a whole bunch of Christmas cheer from Indiana, Texas and Arizona for Sam and I to put under the tree. Check out all these pressies!
Mom even sent some super cute ornaments for our tree :)
For those of you that know me well, you know that gift giving is one of my all time favorite things. I love being able to give that perfect gift! (Not saying I always succeed, but I’ve got a good track record :) And this year I really wanted to make my gifts LOOK as special as I think they are. So with a little inspiration from Design*Sponge, I got to work making some crafty Christmas presents. Here was the decorating station…
And the finished products…
Sam’s birthday is on Christmas day, so he’s got a few extras :)
