The past few months have been pretty great in Sydney. Sun, summer, beach, surfing, and plenty of weekend trips. But even though Summer is leaving us, the events, exhibitions and activities on my To Do list are still growing by the day. To name a few:
I'm thinking a full weekend in the city this month to check these out and try some new restaurants...especially Greenhouse.
I recently did a guest post over at Romantic Hippie about Greenhouse and though I'd share with all of you guys as well!
Greenhouse, a project by artist Joost Bakker, is a revolutionary eco-friendly restaurant that promotes completely sustainable business – from the construction techniques to the daily operations. Recycled and recyclable materials make up the physical building structure, and the restaurant/cafĂ©/bar runs so efficiently that it creates no waste at all. Seriously? Seriously.
Greenhouse water is collected on site, waste is recycled, ingredients are grown on the rooftop garden and even the generator runs on cooking oil. Fresh produce and milk are delivered in returnable containers, while wheat bags are sent back to a local farmer for re-use. And on top of ALL that, every scrap from the kitchen is composted and used in the garden.
Greenhouse’s menu is supposedly just as impressive. With famous Aussie talent Matt Stone running the kitchen, the menu changes daily to feature new, simple creations. Ingredients are either made on site (breads, pastries, butter) or sourced locally. And the inside looks pretty fantastic as well....
(This amazing panoramic was done by Virtual Reality artist Peter Murphy and can be seen in all it's glory here.)
But Greenhouse is only here in Sydney for 8 weeks, so make sure you check it out in time!
